Eating healthy foods is a great place to start. Lots of people eat all the "right" foods and still have digestive problems. Did you know that we digest and absorb 90 to 97% of the food we eat? The rest is plant fibers and serve to create bulk and short-chain fatty acids in our colon. The best diet in the world won't help unless you are digesting properly. You have to be able to digest foods, break them down into small particles; absorb the food chyme; take all this through the intestinal lining and into the bloodstream; assimilate nutrients and calories into the cells where they can be used; and get rid of waste products through the kidneys, bowels, lymph system and skin. Your health can and does break down at any one of these phases. I'll give you an example, people with lots of intestial gas are often fermenting their food rather than digesting it. Many times this occurs because we lack the proper pH in our stomach, too little hydorchloric acid. This difficulty with absorbing food nutrients can cause people to have food sensitivities, fatigue, migraine headaches, and skin rashes.
